ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a painter of the still-life, landscape and figure. I paint mostly from observation. Fruit, cloth, glass, porcelain all exist as tangible and familiar objects in front of me. The colors, textures and weight of these objects are transformed into painted marks that follow lightly over the path of the inquisitive eye. Painting is a record of observations, thoughts and sensibilities, marking not only physical objects but also spaces and time. Sometimes while Iām painting, a curtain is lifted and a landscape unfolds, every once in a while a figure or animal passes through, oblivious to their new environment. I paint to add a voice to the collection of individuals who have labored over their craft to find their perfect painted expression. It is the history of painting that keeps me working in the studio.
