artist statement

Ben is a painter from Dayton, Ohio. His paintings are explorations of color forms and recognition developed through phone photography, line drawing and other works on paper. By using everyday subjects he retains a feeling of the familiar while revealing an unexpected viewpoint. Though no direct narrative is used there is an energy and emotional tone evoked that refers to personal experience but remains open to interpretation. The interaction between color and space and the differences between experience and physicality of a painting become important. The subsequent rhythm becomes an interweaving of increments and boundaries, surface and space, light and color.
